Microwave engineering and photonics

Microwave engineering and photonics facilities are available, covering the spectrum from low microwaves to terahertz at The University of Queensland's St Lucia campus.

Services include a large 40 GHz anechoic chamber (3D antenna test facility), microwave and applied electromagnetics lab, millimetre-wave lab and characterisation lab.

Equipment includes vector network analysers, high frequency oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, dielectric characterisation probes and power meters.

Microwave and photonics laboratories

Services

Antenna research facility consisting of an anechoic chamber for antenna testing and measurement of antenna radiation patterns up to 40 GHz.

Microwave and millimetre-wave measurement and imaging laboratories consisting of equipment for microwave measurements, dielectric and thermal characterisation, including a Y-Ф scanner, multiple Vector Network Analysers (Keysight, R&S) covering the band up to 90 GHz, and dielectric probes (DAC and Keysight).

Microwave CAD infrastructure comprising a number of microwave and antenna CAD packages including Agilent ADS, ANSYS HFSS, CST Microwave Suite, FEKO and AWR Microwave Office.

Photonics laboratory consists of a suite of facilities for laser sensing research. The suite include facilities for visible and near infrared laser sensing and imaging, characterisation of visible and near infrared lasers, numerous vibration isolation platforms, a dedicated preparation room for testing and fabrication of optical systems, and a world-class laboratory specifically designed for laser sensing using terahertz quantum-cascade-lasers.
