Key dates for UQ Amplify Initiative 2019

2019/2020 round

  • Round opens: 2 August 2019
  • UQ Research and Innovation (UQ R&I) information session: 9 August 2019 (to be confirmed)
  • Full applications due to host School/Centre/Institute: 2 September 2019
  • Endorsed applications due to UQ R&I: 25 September 2019
  • Faculty/Institute selection committee processes: 11 October 2019, onwards (indicative)
  • Anticipated announcement: at the earliest opportunity for commencement in 2020


The University of Queensland (UQ) Strategic Plan highlights the need to attract and retain the best researchers from all over the world and develop our capacity to invest in the best research talent. UQ Amplify is a key component of this aim, representing an institution-wide approach to attracting, retaining and developing externally-funded Fellows. UQ Amplify:

  • Coordinates and unifies the University’s investment in externally-funded Fellows;
  • Positions UQ more competitively in the sector as a destination for externally-funded Fellows;
  • Enhances career development for Fellows through an appropriately-scaled active involvement in Teaching; and
  • Enhances career pathways for externally-funded Fellows.

For eligible externally-funded Fellows, UQ Amplify provides for:

  • A fixed-term contract at UQ following conclusion of their externally-funded Fellowship subject to the UQ Amplify assessment process
  • Access to the University’s teaching program through an agreed teaching portfolio.

The current round of UQ Amplify targets eligible current externally-funded ARC/NHMRC/AQ Fellows whose Fellowship will end between 1 July 2019 and 30 June 2020. Strategic funding is available to commence from July 2019, and must be taken up by 1 July 2020. See below for further information for prospective external fellowship applicants in rounds for funding from 2020 onwards.

How to apply 

  • Step 1: Familiarise yourself with the key UQ documentation.
  • Step 2: Download and complete the UQ Amplify Application Form and accompanying supplementary attachments as specified in the form.
  • Step 3: Submit your completed and signed Application Form to School/Centre/Institute by the deadline.

Future rounds of UQ Amplify will target new externally-funded Fellows whose ARC/NHMRC/AQ Fellowship is funded for commencement from 2020 or later. The documents below outline the Guidelines for New External Fellowship Applicants and the different pathways for existing and new Fellows, and for those who transfer to UQ during the term of their Fellowship.
