Run by the Australian Research Council, Excellence in Research in Australia (ERA) is a comprehensive and rigorous assessment of research in Australian universities using a combination of indicators and expert review. ERA identifies and promotes excellence across the full spectrum of research activity in Australia’s higher education institutions.

Further information and a broad range of resources relating the national ERA assessment is available on the ARC’s website. The next ERA exercise is scheduled to run in 2023.

The latest ERA exercise, conducted in 2018, confirmed UQ as one of Australia’s most comprehensive research universities. With 93 fields of research rated above world standard, UQ achieved this result in more specialised fields of research than any other Australian university.

UQ was the highest or equal highest rated university in 10 broad fields, and the highest or equal highest rated university in 56 specialised fields.
