Overview

Research awards and prizes are important esteem measures by which individual and team achievements in research, innovation and impact are recognised.

UQ actively promotes select external awards and prizes, including both national and international opportunities, and assists our researchers in the nomination process.

Enquiries should be addressed to grants@research.uq.edu.au.

How to nominate/apply

Step 1: Preliminary reading, and organising nominators/referees

  • Familiarise yourself with the guidelines for the prize or award in question.
  • Carefully check the applicant eligibility criteria, as well as the requirements for nominators and referees, given these often need to be organised well in advance. For prestigious awards where Chancellery endorsement is required, UQ Research and Innovation (UQ R&I) will liaise with the UQ Office of the Vice-Chancellor and/or Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) on behalf of nominees.

Step 2: Completing the nomination

  • Complete the nomination or application forms and ensure that nominator letters and referee reports are available for submission in the format and timeframe required.

Step 3: Review and feedback

  • For key national and international research awards and prizes, UQ R&I offers review feedback to assist in refining nominations. Please submit your complete draft application at least two weeks in advance of the external closing date for nominations.
  • For all other prize and award nominations, applicants are encouraged to seek review and feedback from their local UQ School/Centre/Faculty/Institute.

Step 4: Final submission

  • Ensure the closing date and time is established well in advance, especially for international awards closing in different time zones.
  • Depending on the type of research award or prize, submission of nominations may be finalised online, via email or via hardcopy.
  • While nominations are often submitted directly by the applicant, UQ R&I submits some key research awards and prizes that require central authority to lodge.
  • If the nominee/applicant submits directly, they are encouraged to provide a copy of the completed nomination to the UQ R&I Research Awards team (grants@research.uq.edu.au).
