Overview

The $47M MRFF Targeted Translation Research Accelerator (TTRA) administered by MTPConnect can provide between $200,000 and $750,000 to help eligible organisations develop innovative preventative, diagnostic, therapeutic and disease management products/solutions for diabetes and cardiovascular disease for projects of up to two years that have commercial potential or health economic benefit.

This TTRA program call will fund projects in the following priority areas:

  • Priority 1: Atherosclerosis, including cerebrovascular disease
  • Priority 2: Cardiomyopathy and heart failure
  • Priority 3: Obesity as it relates to diabetes
  • Priority 4: Mental health as it relates to diabetes
  • Priority 5: Glucose control in type 1 diabetes (T1D), type 2 diabetes (T2D), double diabetes and/or gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM)

The project term for funded TTRA Research Projects is a maximum of 24 months. Applicants will be required to provide a co-contribution to the value of 50% of the TTRA funding request to be eligible.

The Research Projects must develop innovative preventative, diagnostic, therapeutic and/or disease management products/solutions to address one of the following Priority Areas employing one of the eligible modalities: Digital Health, Medical Device, Therapeutic, Behavioural Intervention(not priority 5).

How to apply

Internal notice of intent process

All researchers intending to submit an MRFF TTRA grant, either as lead or partnering with another institution, should complete the UQR&I Notice of Intent by 26 January 2021.

EOI applications should be prepared in accordance with the scheme guidelines and in consultation with UniQuest. Interested applicants please liaise with your UniQuest contact or contact enquiries@uniquest.com.au with TTRA in the title for advice.

Please ensure that you contact UniQuest  as soon as possible.

Step 1. Familiarise yourself with the scheme Guidelines, including eligibility, merit criteria and application requirements. 

Step 2. Completing the application

  • Create an application through MTPConnect. Do not submit the application at this time.
  • Liaise with UniQuest to ensure that the commercial aspects of the application form are completed.

Step 3. UQR&I internal review and feedback

To initiate internal review of your fully completed draft application:

  • email your completed Funding Coversheet and UQ Certification Proforma to UQR&I at mrffgrants@research.uq.edu.au.
  • attach a PDF copy of your application (instructions at MTPConnect), and a copy of your supplemental information to your email.
  • Evidence (emails or letters of support) for your co-contributions (in-kind or cash).

Step 4. Final submission

  • Finalise submission.
