Service Cost Recovery

In accordance with the recently updated UQ Costing and Pricing Procedure (PPL4.10.02 (3.2.1)), when costing proposals for funding from Rural Research Development Corporations, if full overheads cannot be charged then a Service Cost Recovery (SCR) charge must be added as a direct cost. The SCR recognises the minimum essential resources needed to execute a research project at UQ. These costs include access to research infrastructure and key services such as regulatory, commercial and risk management services required to execute research projects.

The appropriate SCR can be calculated by selecting the relevant services in the UQ Costing and Pricing Tool. The difference between the SCR rate and the full overhead rate of 50% should be added as a UQ in-kind contribution.

When justifying the SCR in proposals, applicants should use the following standard text:

Service Cost Recovery Charge:
The Service Cost Recovery (SCR) charge represents the direct costs of the minimum essential resources required to execute this research proposal at UQ and is a reduction on the indirect costs rates of UQ. The SCR includes essential services such as access to research infrastructure, regulatory, commercial and risk management services required to execute research projects., [insert if needed: RHD training support, ethics and communications].

All other indirect costs such as utilities, lab space and general administration (approximately 19%) are presented as an in-kind contribution in this proposal.
