The Next Generation Technologies Fund (NGTF) was introduced with the Defence Industry Policy Statement in 2016, and is managed nationally by the Defence Science and Technology Group. The NGTF, the Defence Innovation Hub and the Centre for Defence Industry Capability together form the ingrated Defence innovation system.

With an investment of $730 million over the decade to July 2026, the NGTF focuses on research in emerging and future technologies for the "future Defence force after next". Innovation technologies and concepts researched under the NGTF could then be further developed and harnessed into capability through the Defence Innovation Hub.

DST Group is progressively establishing a series of collaboration vehicles funded by the NGTF.
