Overview

The Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities (LIEF) scheme fosters collaboration through its support of the cooperative use of international and national research facilities. Researchers are able to participate in cooperative initiatives so that expensive infrastructure, equipment and facilities can be shared between higher education organisations and also with industry.

How to apply

Expressions of Interest

UQ will conduct a mandatory internal Expression of Interest (EOI) process for both UQ lead and non-lead proposals. Given the highly competitive nature of the scheme and the need for institutional cash contributions, UQ will submit a high quality field of applications to the Australian Research Council (ARC) based on recommendations from the Faculties/Institutes. Noting that Faculties and Institutes set their own deadlines for EOIs, applicants are responsible for ensuring that the EOI is submitted to each relevant Faculty/Institute by the relevant deadline, prior to lodgement with UQR&I. UQ Central cash commitments to EOIs will be advised by UQR&I as soon as possible thereafter.

Following the EOI process, endorsed UQ lead LIEF teams prepare a full proposal, as follows:

Step 1. RMS updates and scheme reading

  • Update your full profile in RMS ‘Person Profile’. If any team members are new to RMS and need a login/password, start early.
  • Familiarise yourself with the key ARC and UQ documentation.

Step 2. Completing the application

Step 3. UQR&I internal review and feedback

  • Ahead of internal review, ensure all online components are complete and valid, generate a whole Proposal PDF for your records and select 'Submit to Research Office' in RMS to submit the application.
  • To initiate review, email your completed Funding Coversheet to UQR&I at rifgrants@research.uq.edu.au.
  • If lodging a Request Not to Assess, email your completed form to UQR&I by the internal closing date.
  • Also provide completed UQ Certification Proformas and, where relevant, CFRC Non-Duplication statements.
  • Internal review by UQR&I/feedback provided (compliance/eligibility/grantsmanship).

A suite of templates and proformas to assist you in compiling your application will be made available here when the next round is fully open.

Rejoinders and rebuttal

In the ARC assessment and rejoinder process, proposal comments from external assessors will be made available to applicants, who may be given the opportunity to submit a rejoinder.

To assist researchers to prepare rejoinders, UQR&I holds rejoinder information sessions involving senior academics who have served on the ARC's College of Experts and posts the session materials on the UQR&I presentations and slides page.
