UQ provides a variety of resources to help researchers find potential funding opportunities, including a dedicated UQ portal into the Pivot-RP funding database.

UQ Pivot-RP Portal

This is the primary tool to assist researchers in finding competitive research funding opportunities. Here you can browse and search for funding easily and have funding opportunities from saved searches emailed to you as they arise.

Access Pivot-RP

For maximum benefit and flexibility, we recommend that you create a profile on the portal and customise searches and email alerts. Access is covered by UQ’s corporate subscription.

UQ Research and Innovation Mailer

The UQ R&I Mailer circulates important information relevant to researchers. This includes notifications of upcoming major funding rounds and Research Office information sessions, as well as other information relevant to the UQ research community.

Only UQ and QIMR email addresses can subscribe to the mailer.

Other databases and sources of funding opportunities

  • The Australian Government AusTender System provides centralised publication of Australian Government business opportunities.
  • GrantConnect shows current Australian Government tenders and grant opportunities available for funding.
  • Grants.gov allows organisations to electronically find and apply for competitive grant opportunities from all US Federal grant-making agencies.
  • ProposalCentral is used by numerous US foundations and other grant-making agencies to manage applications, and can be used to search for grant opportunities.

Research Office support for your application

Applications for external competitive grants from UQ researchers are submitted through the Research Office and should be received at least 10 working days before the external funding body closing date. This timeframe allows for central checking of core eligibility and compliance, and for required institutional certifications and submission to be arranged.

Major funding agency rounds, including those from the Australian Research Council (ARC), the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), and the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF), will be advertised through the UQ R&I Mailer and have their own stated timeframe. These rounds typically include an internal EOI stage so that the Research Office can plan its resourcing and alert local areas to prospective applications.

Grants Library

UQ Research and Innovation maintains an electronic library of successful grant proposals from previous funding years. The Library contains applications for most ARC and NHMRC grants, as well as a variety of internal and external schemes. You can request access to relevant applications through our online portal.

Overheads

In many situations applications for funding will require the addition of indirect costs (overheads) to recover the full cost of research. More details can be found on our Budgeting page, or contact the RO for advice.

Other support

The UQ Library provides technical support on setting up accounts and creating database searches to best suit your needs.
