Overview
Project Grants are for single investigators or teams of up to ten chief investigators (CIs). The objective of the scheme is to support the creation of new knowledge by funding the best investigator-initiated research project plans of between one and five years, in any area relevant to human health.
How to apply
Step 1. RGMS updates and scheme reading
- Update your full profile RGMS 'My Profile and CV'. If any team members are new to RGMS and need a login/password, start early.
- Ensure minimum data requirements are complete and that no placeholder text has been included.
- If applying as a New Investigator, please ensure all CIs complete and submit a New Investigator form by the key date.
- Familiarise yourself with the key National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), External Funding Organisations and UQ documentation.
Step 2. Completing the application
- Log into RGMS and complete the application.
Step 3. UQR&I internal review and feedback
- Ahead of internal review, ensure all online components are complete/valid and generate your proposal snapshots in RGMS (refer RGMS User Guide - Applying for Grants)
- To initiate internal review, email your completed Funding Coversheet to UQR&I at nhmrcprojects@research.uq.edu.au.
- Also provide completed UQ Certification Proforma.
- Internal review by UQR&I/feedback provided (compliance/eligibility/grantsmanship).

Rejoinders and rebuttal
In the NHMRC assessment and applicant’s response (rebuttal) process, proposal comments from external assessors will be made available to applicants, who may be given the opportunity to submit a rebuttal.
To assist researchers to prepare rebuttals, UQR&I holds rebuttals information sessions involving senior academics who have served on the NHMRC’s Assigners Academy and Grant Review Panels and posts the session materials on the UQR&I presentations and slides page.
