Development Grants support individual researchers and/or research teams to undertake health and medical research at the proof-of-concept stage within Australia that specifically drives towards a commercial outcome, such as the development of a product, process, procedure or service that would result in improved health care, disease prevention, or health cost savings. Research supported by this scheme must have detailed, feasible strategies for commercialisation, and commercial outcomes within a foreseeable timeframe.

How to apply

Step 1. RGMS updates and scheme reading

  • Update your full profile RGMS 'My Profile and CV'. If any team members are new to RGMS and need a login/password, start early.
  • Familiarise yourself with the key National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and The University of Queensland (UQ) documentation.

Step 3. UQR&I internal review and feedback

  • Ahead of internal review, ensure all online components are complete/valid and generate your proposal snapshots in RGMS (refer RGMS User Guide - Applying for Grants)
  • To initiate internal review, email your completed Funding Coversheet to UQR&I at
  • Also provide completed UQ Certification Proforma.
  • Internal review by UQR&I/feedback provided (compliance/eligibility/grantsmanship).

Step 4. Final submission

  • Final submission by UQR&I to NHMRC.
