Overview

The Future Fellowships scheme seeks to retain and attract the best and brightest Australian and international mid-career researchers. The scheme provides four-year fellowships, and up to an additional $50,000 of non-salary funding per annum, to support research in areas of critical national importance, giving preference to those who can demonstrate a capacity to build collaboration across industry, research institutions, and other disciplines.

How to apply

Internal nomination process

As per previous rounds, UQ will determine its applicant field via a mandatory internal nomination process to ensure that the University's applicant field is closely aligned with the core requirements of the Future Fellowships scheme.

Prospective Future Fellowship candidates provide the template four-page Nomination Proforma lodged through the relevant UQ Head of School or host UQ Centre to their Faculty/Institute for consideration. If endorsing the candidate, Faculties/Institutes will then forward their Nomination Statements, together with the candidate Nomination Proforma to UQR&I no later than Monday 17 September 2018 (earlier if possible). UQR&I will liaise with the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) as the final approving authority for nominations. Some flexibility will be afforded for late nominations in special circumstances, however, Faculties and Institutes are strongly encouraged to forward nominations progressively/in tranches, so that nominations can be considered on a rolling basis by the Chancellery.

  • To initiate review, email your completed Funding Coversheet to UQR&I at ARCFellowships@research.uq.edu.au
  • If lodging a Request Not to Assess, email your completed form to UQR&I by the internal closing date
  • Send UQR&I a word version of your draft C3 Statement by the Administering Organisation.
  • Also provide completed UQ Certification Proformas.
  • Internal review by UQR&I/feedback provided (compliance/eligibility/grantsmanship)

Rejoinders and rebuttal

The assessment comments provided by external assessors may be made available to Applicants by the ARC and Applicants may be given the opportunity to submit a Rejoinder.

UQR&I works closely with individual applicants in submitting Future Fellowships rejoinders and for this reason does not provide institution-wide workshops or seminars.

Detailed information on the rejoinder process (including instructions for accessing assessment reports and submitting rejoinders) is available from the ARC website.  The UQR&I internal deadline for rejoinders is shown under our Key Dates section above.
