  • Proposals open in Research Grants Management System (RGMS): 22 March 2017
  • UQ Research and Innovation (UQR&I) information session: TBA
  • Minimum data requirements in RGMS: 3 May 2017
  • Applications due to UQR&I: 26 April 2017
  • Applications close with NHMRC: 17 May 2017
  • Rebuttal period: N/A
  • Deadline to provide NHMRC with interview time preference: 30 June 2017
  • Applicants notified of shortlisting outcomes via UQR&I: August 2017
  • Deadline for Chief Investigators (CIs) to provide Research Achievements update: 28 August 2017
  • Interviews: Interviews for shortlisted applicants are scheduled to take place during the week commencing 11 September 2017.
  • Anticipated announcement: TBA


Program Grants provide support for teams of high calibre researchers to pursue broad-based, multi-disciplinary, and collaborative research activities. The scheme is available to all research approaches for better health: biomedical, clinical, public health, and health services research.

How to apply

Step 1. RGMS updates and scheme reading

  • Update your full profile RGMS 'My Profile and CV'. If any team members are new to RGMS and need a login/password, start early.
  • Familiarise yourself with the key National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and UQ documentation.

Step 2. Completing the application

Step 3. UQR&I internal review and feedback

  • Ahead of internal review, ensure all online components are complete/valid and generate your proposal snapshots in RGMS (refer RGMS User Guide - Applying for Grants)
  • To initiate internal review, email your completed Funding Coversheet to UQR&I at
  • Also provide completed UQ Certification Proforma.
  • Internal review by UQR&I/feedback provided (compliance/eligibility/grantsmanship).

Step 4. Final submission

  • Final submission by UQR&I to NHMRC.

Rejoinders and rebuttal

This scheme does not have a rejoinder/rebuttal process. Information on Program Grant interviews is shown in the Key Dates section.

Short-listed applicants must make themselves available for an in-person interview to be scheduled commencing the week 11 September 2017.
