Career Development Fellowships (CDFs) are highly competitive, four-year fellowships that support the most outstanding early-to-mid-career health and medical researchers. Fellowships support investigators to establish themselves as independent, self-directed researchers; and expand capacity for clinical, population health, biomedical and bioinformatics research, including the translation of research outcomes into practice.

How to apply

Step 1. RGMS updates and scheme reading

  • Update your full profile RGMS 'My Profile and CV'. If any team members are new to RGMS and need a login/password, start early.
  • Familiarise yourself with the key National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and UQ documentation.

Step 2. Completing the application

Step 3. UQR&I internal review and feedback

  • Ahead of internal review, ensure all online components are complete/valid and generate your proposal snapshots in RGMS (refer RGMS User Guide - Applying for Grants)
  • To initiate internal review, email your completed Funding Coversheet to UQR&I at
  • Also provide completed UQ Certification Proforma.
  • Internal review by UQR&I/feedback provided (compliance/eligibility/grantsmanship).

Step 4. Final submission

  • Final submission by UQR&I to NHMRC.
